Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay

Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay is Singapore’s national performing arts centre at Marina Bay, operated by The Esplanade Co Ltd, a not-for-profit registered charity and Institution of a Public Character. Opened in October 2002, it connects audiences with performing and visual arts through curated programmes, festivals, community engagement work, commercial venue hires and collaborations with local and international arts groups. The centre is known for its twin domes and aluminium sunshades, often nicknamed the durian by Singaporeans. Its main spaces include the Concert Hall, Theatre and other studios and waterfront venues, supporting music, theatre, dance, visual arts and multidisciplinary programmes. Esplanade’s official site states that it has hosted more than 62,000 performances and activities since opening, alongside arts workshops, hosted visits and offsite or virtual performances for community groups.
